Topolski Drawing Residency
During the summer of 2014 I was a resident of the Topolski Studio Reportage Drawing Programme. Here is a selection of some of the reportage work produced at events in London, including Notting Hill Carnival and The Invictus Games.
Lunchtime at Southbank (July 2014)
World War I Centenary Commemorations
Packed tightly into the 5th floor Poetry Library of the Royal Festival Hall, we proved to be somewhat conspicuous as we struggled to disguise ourselves amongst the grey-haired ‘socked and sandled’ poetry lovers gathering around us to celebrate David Constantine‘s 70th Birthday. With an audience of pensioners in pensive poses for us to draw, this poetry reading was an opportunity for us to combine visual reportage with auditory; with a few of us jotting down over-heard snippets of Constantine‘s bleak yet thought-provoking poems to incorporate into our drawings.
Being in the company of fellow art lovers meant that our documentation process was relatively comfortable for both our seemingly-willing subjects and ourselves.
Notting Hill Carnival:
Vodka & energy drink-fuelled morning of costume preparations with just 48 hours to go until Carnival.
The Invictus Games
